4,155-Page $1.7T Bill Renames San Francisco Federal Building ‘Speaker Nancy Pelosi Federal Building’

The 4,155-page $1.7-trillion omnibus spending bill that the Senate approved today on a 68-29 vote includes language on page 610 that renames the federal building in San Francisco the “Speaker Nancy Pelosi Federal Building.”

Sec. 636 (a) of the bill states: “The Federal building located at 90th 7th Street in San Francisco, California, shall be known and designated as the ‘Speaker Nancy Pelosi Federal Building.’”

Sen. Mike Lee (R.-Utah) pointed out this fact in a speech on the Senate floor on Wednesday—noting that Scott Parkinson (who serves as vice president of government affairs at the Club for Growth) had originally noted this element of the massive bill in a tweet.

“We’ve combed through and tried to figure out what some of the highlights and the lowlights are,” Sen. Lee said in his floor speech on Wednesday.

“My friend Scott Parkinson identified a series of the lowlights in one Twitter thread,” said Lee. “He identified a few that I may point out here. In one of them, good news for the out-going Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. She’s going to have a federal building named after her on Seventh Street in San Francisco. It will be called the Speaker Nancy Pelosi Federal Building. Congratulations to her. That’s great. Fantastic.”

In his tweet, Parkinson said: “You know the federal building at 90 7th Street in San Francisco? It’s redesignated as the ‘Speaker Nancy Pelosi Federal Building.’”

Here is an excerpt from Lee’s speech where he notes that the spending bill would rename the federal building in San Francisco after Nancy Pelosi:

Sen. Mike Lee: “Now, the authors of the bill recognized that if the bill were considered according to its own merits, it could not, would not pass. There are a whole lot of features in this that fit that description that couldn’t pass on their own. That’s why they lumped them all together. It takes priorities important to this member and to that member, you lump them all into one bill. And then you tell members you are not going to vote for any of these things in isolation. So, you better vote for this one, or else you’ll get nothing, and, by the way, you will be shutting down the government at the same time. There have been a number of people who have helped go through the analysis line-by-line. My staff has done an enormous amount of analysis. We’ve combed through and tried to figure out what some of the highlights and the lowlights are. My friend Scott Parkinson identified a series of the lowlights in one Twitter thread. He identified a few that I may point out here. In one of them, good news for the out-going Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. She’s going to have a federal building named after her on Seventh Street in San Francisco. It will be called the Speaker Nancy Pelosi Federal Building. Congratulations to her. That’s great. Fantastic.”
