Biden: ‘I Sleep With a Teacher Every Night’

(CNSNews.com) – President Joe Biden celebrated Cinco de Mayo on Thursday by addressing a group that included the first lady of Mexico, Beatriz Gutiérrez Müeller de Lopez Obrador (wife Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador), and announced to the crowd that he sleeps “with a teacher every night.”

Biden spent part of his address hailing the many public officials who had come to the White House for Cinco de Mayo.

“How many mayors are here today—American mayors?” Biden asked.

“How many diplomats are here from various parts of the world? You can raise your hand.  It’s okay,” said Biden.

“And how many advocates and community leaders are here?” he asked.

Then somebody in the crowd shouted out: “Teachers!”

“Oh, teachers,” Biden responded.  “I—you know, I sleep with a teacher every night. Same one. The same one.  If I didn’t like teachers, I’d be sleeping alone. I’d be—I’d be in a different place.”

First Lady Jill Biden appeared to say to her husband: “You’re a teacher, too.”

President Joe Biden: “You know, along with all the mayors—how many mayors are here today—American mayors?

First Lady Jill Biden: “Wow.”  

Biden: “All right. And how many diplomats are here from various parts of the world?  You can raise your hand.  It’s okay.  You don’t want to be seen.  It’s like, “You know, I don’t know.”  I’m not sure he wants to—you know.  

“And how many advocates and community leaders are here?  All right.” 

Audience member:  “Teachers!”

Biden:  “Oh, teachers.  I—you know, I sleep with a teacher every night.  Same one.  The same one.  If I didn’t like teachers, I’d be sleeping alone. I’d be —

First Lady:  “You’re a teacher too.” 

Biden: “I’d be in a different place.”
