Biden Justifies Abortion by Invoking Rights of ‘a Child of God,’ Then Declares National Day of Prayer

(CNSNews.com) – President Joe Biden on Wednesday morning explained his position in favor of legalized abortion by recalling that he had once told Supreme Court nominee Robert Bork that he possessed the rights he had because he is a “child of God.”

Later that same day, Biden issued a statement declaring Thursday the National Day of Prayer.”

After giving remarks on the economy in the Roosevelt Room of the White House shortly after 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Biden answered questions from reporters.

One reporter asked him about the leaked draft Supreme Court opinion that would overturn Roe vs. Wade, the 1973 opinion that declared abortion a right.  

“What’s the next step on abortion once this case gets settled?” the reporter asked.

“When this hit, as I was getting on the plane to go down to Alabama, this is about a lot more than abortion.  I hadn’t read the whole opinion at that time,” said Biden. 

“But this reminds me of the debate with Robert Bork. Bork believed the only reason you had any inherent rights was because the government gave them to you. If you go back and look at the opening comments from the Bork-Biden—when I was questioning him as chairman–I said, ‘I believe I have the rights that I have not because the government gave them to me, which you believe, but because I’m just a child of God; I exist,’” said Biden.

Biden then went on to invoke the “right to privacy”—under which the Supreme Court in Roe vs. Wade claimed a right to abortion.

“What are the next things that are going to be attacked?” Biden said at the end of his response to this question. “Because this MAGA crowd is really the most extreme political organization that’s existed in American history—in recent American history.

Later on Wednesday, President Biden issued “A Proclamation on National Day of Prayer, 2022.”

“NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSEPH R. BIDEN JR., President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim May 5, 2022, as a National Day of Prayer,” said Biden’s proclamation.
