Bravery on Steroids! Snipers Wait At Ready While Fellow Officers Dive For Bodies of Mom and Son in Alligator Infested Pond [VIDEO]
On Friday, Nieves Matos, 80, and her son, Mario Laza, 56, lost control of their minivan on the Florida Turnpike in Miami and drove straight into a retention pond off of the highway.
Witnesses of the incident dove into the water to try and save the mother and son, and police rescue teams soon showed up to help.
However, it was soon realized that the water they had dove into was filled with alligators. Snipers quickly surrounded the pond to protect the brave divers from alligator attacks.
Footage of these events was released which shows the snipers lying on their stomachs, prepared to shoot any potential attackers.

“The vehicle lost control, overturned, driving off of the roadway into the pond,” reported FHP Lt. Alex Camacho. “Dive teams from fire rescue and Miami-Dade Police did their search and rescue, and were able to rescue an adult female and adult male inside of the vehicle at the time.”
After being recovered from the water, the mother and her son were rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. The mother survived, but her son tragically passed away.
