On Thursday, former president Donald Trump announced that his attorneys had met with officials from the Department of Justice in Washington, DC, including Special Counsel Jack Smith, to discuss his looming indictment on charges related to January 6.
Trump referred to the meeting as “productive,” and revealed that the DOJ showed no indication that he would be given a notice.
“My attorneys had a productive meeting with the DOJ this morning, explaining in detail that I did nothing wrong, was advised by many lawyers, and that an Indictment of me would only further destroy our Country,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
He added that, “no indication of notice” was given during the meeting, but warned supporters, “Do not trust the Fake News on anything!”
Smith and his team have been investigating whether Trump or other officials interfered with the peaceful transfer of power following the 2020 presidential election, with a focus on the riot that took place at the Capitol during Congress’ attempt to certify the Electoral College vote on January 6, 2021.
