On Monday, a group of Republican lawmakers sent a letter to Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Alejandro Mayorkas, demanding that the Biden Administration release its report on an incident in which Border Patrol agents were falsely accused of “whipping” illegal aliens.
“It has been more than four months since senior members of the Biden Administration, including President Biden and Press Secretary, Jen Psaki participated in a widely spread falsehood and accused United States Border Patrol agents of ‘whipping’ Haitian migrants attempting to illegally cross into the United States near Del Rio, Texas on September 19, 2021,” the letter reads, as reported by Fox News.
In the aforementioned incident, several Border Patrol agents on horseback were seen riding alongside dozens of illegals who were running across the border into the United States. When several illegals got dangerously close to the horses and began harassing them, some agents began spinning their reins around in circles to keep the illegals at bay, a common tactic used by horseback officers in crowd control situations.
When photographs of the incident went viral, the agents were falsely accused of using the reins to whip the illegals. The mainstream media and most Democratic politicians immediately went along with the false claims, accusing the Border Patrol of abuse and racism. Joe Biden, from the podium at the White House, called the incident “outrageous” and declared that “those people will pay. There will be an investigation underway now and there will be consequences.”
An anonymous DHS official was quoted in the letter as noting that the administration’s report, which has since been completed, will most likely never be released “because it makes the administration look terrible.” Previously, the incident was debunked by numerous law enforcement officials as well as the photographer who captured the photographs in question. Nevertheless, the incident led to an internal investigation, as well as lawsuits from far-left pro-amnesty groups. Mayorkas promised in September that the report would be handed over to lawmakers in “a matter of days,” since the investigation had concluded; the report has still not been released, over four months later.
The signatories of the letter include Reps. Brian Babin (R-Texas), Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), Michael Cloud (R-Texas), Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), Mary Miller (R-Ill.), Scott Perry (R-Penn.), and Chip Roy (R-Texas).
