Elon Musk: Twitter Banning Trump Was 'Morally Wrong and Flat Up Stupid'
During an interview at the Financial Times’s Future of the Car summit, entrepreneur and business magnate Elon Musk said that Twitter’s lifetime ban of then-President Donald Trump, on Jan. 8, 2021, was “morally wrong” and “flat up stupid.” Musk also said that Twitter has a “strong left bias.”
“I think it was a morally bad decision, and foolish in the extreme,” Musk said of Twitter’s lifetime ban of President Trump.
“Banning Trump from Twitter didn’t end Trump’s voice,” added Musk. “It will amplify it among the right. This is why it’s morally wrong and flat up stupid.”

He further said, “I would reverse the permaban [on Trump]. Obviously I don’t own Twitter yet, so this is not a thing that will definitely happen.” (Trump had more than 80 million followers on Twitter when he was banned.)
Musk also said that his opposition to permanent bans of people on Twitter was supported by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey. At Twitter, to ban a user is decided by a committee, not the CEO.
Musk, reportedly the richest man in the world, has worked out a $44 billion deal to purchase Twitter. The deal is expected to be completed in about 5 months.
