German Catholic Bishops Defy Vatican, Agree to Bless Homosexual Couples

Although the Catholic Church teaches that homosexual behavior is sinful and must never be condoned, the Catholic bishops of Germany voted today to allow official blessing ceremonies for homosexual couples, starting in March 2026.

The vote was 38 to nine, with 11 abstentions, “in favor of liturgies for the blessing of couples who don’t qualify for the Catholic sacrament of matrimony, including same-sex couples and those who have remarried outside the church after a divorce,” reported the Wall Street Journal.  “The resolution calls on individual German bishops, each of whom has authority over the matter in his own diocese, to adopt the practice.”

Diane Montagna, a U.S. journalist in Rome, tweeted about the bishops’ vote and provided a translation on the decision from a German magazine. It states, “The synodal assembly for the reform of the Catholic Church has decided that there will be official blessing ceremonies for homosexual couples from March 2026.

“Divorced couples who have remarried in a civil ceremony will also be able to have their relationship blessed by the Catholic Church.

“… The implementation of the decisions of the synodal way depends on the respective bishop. If bishops refuse, they cannot be forced to do so.

“The document recommends using the time before the March 2026 introduction of blessing ceremonies for homosexuals to work with bishops on forms and the liturgical form of the ceremony. Refusing to bless the relationship of two people ‘who want to live their partnership in love, commitment and responsibility to each other and to God’ is uncharitable to discriminatory, it says.”

Back in 2021, the Vatican was aksed if it had the authority to bless gay unions. The Vatican office, Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, replied “negative.”

In its full response, the Vatican explained that blessings are sacramentel actions, they are holy practices (or objects) that are in conformity with the natural and supernatural order established by God. And because homosexual acts are “intrisically disordered,” “acts of grave depravity,” according to the Chuch, they cannot be blessed.

“[W]hen a blessing is invoked on particular human relationships, in addition to the right intention of those who participate, it is necessary that what is blessed be objectively and positively ordered to receive and express grace, according to the designs of God inscribed in creation, and fully revealed by Christ the Lord,” said the Vatican.  “Therefore, only those realities which are in themselves ordered to serve those ends are congruent with the essence of the blessing imparted by the Church.”

The Vatican further said, “For this reason, it is not licit to impart a blessing on relationships, or partnerships, even stable, that involve sexual activity outside of marriage (i.e., outside the indissoluble union of a man and a woman open in itself to the transmission of life), as is the case of the unions between persons of the same sex.”

In response to the news out of Germany, Bree Dail, a Rome-based reporter with The Daily Wire tweeted, “In 2021, Pope Francis made it clear the Catholic Church cannot bless such unions. Are German Bishops formally in schism?”

Michael Haynes, a traditional Catholic reporter based in Rome tweeted, “As Germany’s bishops @dbk_online break from #Catholic teaching and from the #Vatican via the @DerSynodaleWeg, citing @Pontifex in approving same-sex blessings, will #PopeFrancis take responsibility for his actions and intervene?”

Another traditionalist Catholic on Twitter, “Il Grand’ Inquisitor,” said, “They’ve gone and done it. I would advise Catholics in any collaborating diocese in Germany to seek out an Ecclesia Dei institute for Mass, even you’re not into TLM [traditional Latin Mass]. Failing that – SSPX is now clearly less in schism than any German diocese collaborating in this outrage.”

John @GodFamily_USA tweeted, “NEED A REFRESHER COURSE ON YOUR BIBLE? YOU IGNORE THE WORD OF GOD AT YOUR OWN PERIL.”

Rob Wade #Authentic tweeted, “In other words, The Catholic Church in Germany has become apostate. Copy that.”

Daily Caller News Editor Grayson Quay tweeted, “In related news. The ‘Catholic’ ‘Church’ in Germany will officially be excommunicated by Rome from March 2026 if not sooner.”

Long-time editor and reporter R. Cort Kirkwood tweeted, “If I read this correctly, a whole heck of a lot of priests, bishops, and cardinals, particularly in Germany and including that daffodil James Martin, are excommunicated. But what of the ‘Catholic’ elected officials who openly advocate abortion?”

In the Gospel of Matthew, several Pharisees try to test Jesus Christ and ask him, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?”

Jesus replies, “Haven’t you read that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”

In Romans, Chapter One, St. Paul writes, “Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.

“Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

“Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.”
