GOP Congressman: Biden’s Decision to Let USCIS Officers Hear Asylum Claims Is ‘Ridiculous’ and ‘Wrong’

(CNSNews.com) – Rep. Chuck Fleischmann (R-Tenn.) panned a decision by the Biden administration to allow U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services (USCIS) officers to hear the asylum claims of migrants under a new system.

“This is ridiculous, it is wrong, it’s a continuation of the Biden administration’s passion and pension for moving forward to get more illegal immigrants in this country. They failed with Title 42 repeal. They continue to lack at things. Let me explain how this is, because I work with this, Dagen, as the Homeland Appropriation ranking member, highest Republican on appropriations for homeland,” he told Fox Business’ “Mornings with Maria Bartiromo.”

“Basically now judges make that decision. Now these are going to be employees who will be able to decide, and yes, if they make that decision, you’re going to allow many more people in and say, yes, I want asylum and the like. It’s another flaw in a broken system. It needs to be stopped,” Fleischmann said.

“It’s just a continuation of wreaking havoc on the rule of law that the Biden administration just seems to be marching in that direction from the inception. It’s wrong,” the congressman said.

Fleischmann agreed with Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) that the Biden administration has made the decision to have an open border.

“The senator is correct in his assessment. This administration every time – whether it’s person power, technology, law, that comes up to secure our border, any attempt to make it safer, more secure, restore the rule of law, they go the other way, and they just don’t go the other way … They double down and then they get their radical left minions to come out and back them up,” Fleischmann said.

“This is bad for the United States of America, and this is a national security crisis. We have fentanyl. We have illegals coming over. We have people from over 130 some odd countries coming into this country. We don’t know where they’re going. The ones we catch sadly many of them they’re just releasing, and who knows about the ones that we don’t catch,” he said.

“I just don’t understand why the American people don’t stand up with a strong resolve and say, secure the border once and for all. Donald Trump did it. He did it well. He worked with federal folks, the ICE folks, the CBP folks. I feel for these folks, because they must be demoralized serving under President Biden,” the congressman said.

When asked if there’s anything that Republicans can do about it if they win back the majority in Congress, Fleischmann said, “Unfortunately, we’re going to have Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in that administration for another couple of years, but, yes, we can. 

“First of all, the power of the purse. I’m an appropriator. We can make sure that we fund measures in the House that — that get through and actually build the wall. I actually got through $1.9 billion worth of funding for President Trump’s wall in this last budget that Joe Biden had to sign,” the congressman said. 

“The problem is he won’t follow the law. He won’t build the wall, meaning Biden. So we can do that. Let’s hope and pray we get the United States Senate back. That is a critical, critical venue. We have got to win that back, and then what we need to do is block Joe Biden, block that administration, we’re going to have to play defense for at least two years and then try to reach out if there are any left, and that’s a big reach for any reasonable Democrats to see if they will join us in securing the border,” he said. 

“The American people need to be heard loud and clear at the ballot box with the resounding no to all of the Democrats. It’s not just Joe Biden. It’s Nancy Pelosi. It’s Schumer, and it’s all the radical left-wing minions that are destroying the country on a host of fronts not only at the border,” Fleischmann said.
