Liz Cheney: 'GOP Leadership Has Enabled White Nationalism, White Supremacy, Anti-Semitism'
(CNS News) — House Rep. Liz Cheney (R), who represents Wyoming’s at-large congressional district and is one of only 10 Republicans who voted to impeach President Donald Trump, denounced the GOP leadership in the House of Representatives, stating it “has enabled white nationalism, white supremacy, and anti-semitism.”
The House leadership includes Minority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), House Whip Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.), Republican Conference Chairman Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), and Republican Policy Committee Chairman Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Ala.).
“The House GOP leadership has enabled white nationalism, white supremacy, and anti-semitism,” Cheney tweeted in the morning of May 16. “History has taught us that what begins with words ends in far worse. @GOP leaders must renounce and reject these views and those who hold them.”

Although Cheney did not reference Saturday’s mass shooting in Buffalo, N.Y., allegedly carried out by a white extremist who hated black people, her tweet was posted a little more than 24 hours after the horrific event.
Commenting on Cheney’s tweet, Mollie Hemingway, editor of The Federalist and a Fox News contributor, tweeted, “This leftist weaponization of racial division for political power against the multi-racial working class GOP is vile and disgusting — even if it were not being uttered to, among others, a man who survived an assassination attempt. Abhorrent and utterly disqualifying.”
Rep. Steve Scalise was shot and badly wounded by a left-wing domestic terrorist on June 14, 2017.

In March, Leader McCarthy endorsed Cheney’s opponent, Republican Harriet Hageman, for the primary run in Wyoming. In response, Cheney’s spokesman issued a statement that said, “A leader with honor would be rejecting — not protecting — the pro-Putin, anti-Semitic, white nationalist members of the party, instead of fighting against Liz Cheney for telling the truth.”
In a January interview with ABC’s This Week, Cheney said she shared Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) fear that Trump could be reelected in 2024, which “could be the end of our democracy.”
