NHL’s Canucks to Feature Drag Show Before Game, PRIDE ‘Market’ in Arena

The NHL’s Vancouver Canucks will “celebrate the 2SLGBTQIA+ community” at the hockey team’s home game on Friday, March 31, 2023 – with a pre-game drag show and in-game performances.

“2SLGBTQIA+ represents two-spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex, asexual and additional sexual orientations and gender identities,” the team’s NHL.com webpage announcement reports.

A pre-game party will include a “Drag show featuring Vancouver-based performers Mx.Bukuru, Carrie Oki Doki, Xanax, and Jerrilynn Spears” and “Engaging musical and dance performances by Queer as Funk and Zynth & Co. Dancers,” the announcement explains. Here, “Out On Patrol,” an incorporated non-profit peer support group for 2SLGBTQIA+ members of law enforcement, will host a booth.

Sections 122-103 of the arena will be dedicated to a PRIDE market, with “resource tables,’ where organizations will provide information about how to get involved in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

Drag show performers from the pre-game performance will meet and greet hockey fans in Section 111.

A $20,000 donation on behalf of the Canucks for Kids Fund will be made to QMUNITY, a non-profit organization in Vancouver “that supports and assists 2SLGBTQIA+ people and their allies,” the announcement notes.
