Nikki Haley: ‘Our Children Are Never Going to Forgive Us for This’

“Our children are never going to forgive us for this,” presidential candidate and former Republican South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley says, warning that American won’t be able to leave a better life for their children if something isn’t done about the nation’s $31 trillion debt.

“Washington has too many lawyers, and what it really needs is a good accountant,” Haley tweeted Tuesdays, introducing a video clip of her comments in an interview Monday on Fox News Channel’s “The Story With Martha MacCallum.”

“The difference is I’m not a lawyer looking to go to Washington. I’m an accountant. And the problem is we’re 31 trillion in debt,” Haley said when asked to distinguish herself from her political rivals.

Haley, who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Clemson University, warned that, with such a ponderous national debt, half of Americans don’t think they’ll be able to leave a better life for their children:

“Our children are never going to forgive us for this, if we don’t start realistically looking at how we’re going to pay down this debt, how we’re going to balance our budgets like I did in South Carolina and how we’re going to start making sure that we can leave a better life for our children, because right now fifty percent of Americans don’t think they’re going to be able to do that.

“And that’s unacceptable.”
