NSC Spokesman: U.S. Special Forces in Ukraine Are Working on ‘Accountability of the Material Going in and Out of Ukraine’ – Not Fighting

(CNSNews.com) – NSC spokesman John Kirby told Fox News on Wednesday that the U.S. special forces are in Ukraine at the U.S. embassy, but they are not fighting in the Russia-Ukraine war.

This comes after the BBC reported that UK and US special forces are in Ukraine according to one of dozens of leaked Defense Department classified documents.

“According to the document, dated 23 March, the UK has the largest contingent of special forces in Ukraine (50), followed by fellow Nato states Latvia (17), France (15), the US (14) and the Netherlands (1). The document does not say where the forces are located or what they are doing,” the BBC reported.

Fox News White House Correspondent Peter Doocy asked Kirby, “Something in these documents reveals that there are U.S. Special forces inside of Ukraine. Has there been a change to the U.S. force posture there?”

“There’s not change that there won’t be American troops in Ukraine fighting in this war. There’s a small U.S. Military presence at the embassy in conjunction with the defense attache’s office to help us work on accountability of the material going in and out of Ukraine,” Kirby said.

“They’re at the embassy, but they are not fighting,” Doocy asked.

“That is right,” Kirby said.
