Pelosi: Florida Is ‘Shipping These Immigrants Up North,’ When Its Farmers Tell Me ‘We Need Them to Pick Crops Down Here’
Florida’s farmers and growers tell her that they don’t want Governor Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) to keep sending illegal aliens to northern “sanctuaries” – because they need the immigrants to “pick crops” for them, House Speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) claimed Friday.
At a press conference, Pelosi was asked about Democrats’ refusal to call for tighter border security.
“We have a responsibility to secure our border. We also have a responsibility to recognize the importance of newcomers to our nation,” Pelosi said. “Right now, the best thing that we can do for our economy is to have comprehensive immigration reform.”
Pelosi, then, claimed she had spoken to Florida farmers who couldn’t understand why their state was shipping illegal aliens up north, when they’re needed to “pick the crops down here”:
“We have a shortage of workers in our country, and you see in Florida. Some of the farmers and the growers say, why are you shipping these immigrants up north. We need them to pick the crops down here.”
The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 makes it illegal for employers to knowingly hire or continue to employ undocumented workers.
