Pelosi: ‘Republican-Controlled Supreme Court’ is ‘Jeopardizing the Health, Freedom and Safety of Women’
(CNSNews.com) – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi sent out a tweet on January 22—the 50th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s now-reversed Roe v. Wade decision that made abortion a right—that said the “Republican-controlled Supreme Court” was jeopardizing women.
“Today, we should be commemorating 50 years of Roe v. Wade,” Pelosi said in her tweet. ‘But the Republican-controlled Supreme Court tore up this landmark ruling last summer—jeopardizing the health, freedom and safety of women across the country.
“We must keep fighting to enshrine Roe into law,” Pelosi said.
In September 2021, when the House was still controlled by Democrats and Pelosi was still speaker, the chamber voted 218 to 2011 to approve the “Women’s Health Protection Act.” No Republicans voted for this bill, but one Democrat voted against it.
“This bill,” says its official summary, “prohibits governmental restrictions on the provision of, and access to, abortion services.”
