Poll: Tolerating Harassment of SCOTUS Justices and Violence Against Pregnancy Centers Will Hurt Midterm Candidates

Candidates who threaten or try to intimidate Supreme Court justices, or tolerate those who do, will lose votes in the midterm elections, just as will candidates who don’t speak out against those who attack pro-life organizations, a new national survey of voters finds.

The national survey of registered voters, conducted July 14-17 by CRC Research for the Judicial Crisis Network (JCN), also finds strong support for enforcing existing laws protecting justices, pregnancy resource centers and churches.

Fifty-eight percent (58%) of voters want Attorney General Merrick Garland to start enforcing laws prohibiting protests at the homes of Supreme Court justices.

Even a 50%-39% plurality of Democrat voters say Garland should protect justices in their homes from pro-abortion protestors upset about the decision overturning Roe v. Wade. Independent voters support enforcement of the laws, 56%-29%.

Fully 60% of voters say President Joe Biden should speak out and publicly condemn the protests at the homes of Supreme Court justices, including 51% of self-described Democrats.

Voters are even more opposed to the practice of paying “bounties” for tips about where Supreme Court justices are dining, by activist groups that want to harass justices eating at restaurants.

Seventy-one percent (71%) of voters say offering “bounties” is “extreme and goes too far,” including 61% of Democrats and 69% of Independents.

When it comes to the midterm elections, 72% of voters report that they’re less likely “to vote for an elected official who bullies, threatens, or intimidates Supreme Court justices,” with 57% declaring that they’re “much less likely” to vote for such a candidate and 15% saying they’re “somewhat less likely.”

Last month, following the arrest of an armed man who allegedly was attempting to murder Justice Brett Kavanaugh, a 2020 video of Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) threatening Supreme Court justices went viral.

In the video, Sen. Schumer tells Justices Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch that they “will pay a terrible price” and “won’t know what hit you,” if they vote to uphold a Louisiana law requiring doctors to acquire hospital admitting privileges in order to perform abortions

Regarding vandalism and violence against pregnancy resource centers and churches, voters overwhelming agree that offenders should be prosecuted “to the fullest extent of the law.”

Fully 86% of registered voters agree that those who engage in acts of vandalism and violence against pregnancy resource centers and churches should be prosecuted, including 83% of Democrats and 85% of Independents.

Similarly, 83% of voters say that elected officials should publicly denounce violence against pregnancy resource centers and churches, and should also call for those committing the violence to be brought to justice. A majority (56%) say they “strongly” agree that elected officials should take these steps.

When the midterm elections come around, 59% of registered voters say they’ll be less likely to vote for officials who refused to speak out against acts of rage, vandalism and violence against pregnancy centers – including 42% who say they’ll be “much less likely” to do so.
