Rep. Biggs: ‘Huge Mistake’ to Wait on Impeaching DHS Sec. Mayorkas

(CNS News)-Speaking on “Fox News Live” on Sunday, Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) said it was a “huge mistake” to wait to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, and added “We can’t go for another two years with five million people illegally entering the country.”

“Well, you can sit around and wait until we’ve just totally lost the border,” Biggs responded when asked if he was being too premature. “Right now our border is controlled by the Mexican drug cartels and we have increasing human trafficking, sex trafficking, drug trafficking and it’s being done intentionally. There isn’t anybody that’s not going to say that this isn’t being done intentionally at least as far as having the border open and the ramifications.”

He continued “So I say let’s go ahead and get started. If you want to do an inquiry, let’s do the inquiry. But if we’re going to sit around and talk about it and not have any action on this to investigate and then proceed with normal due process rights for Secretary Mayorkas, then I think you’re making a huge mistake because we just don’t have the time. We can’t go for another two years with five million people illegally entering the country.”

Last week, Rep. Biggs introduced an article of impeachment against Secretary Mayorkas saying “It’s clear Secretary Mayorkas has committed high crimes and misdemeanors. His conduct is willful and intentional. He is not enforcing the law and is violating his oath of office.”

“Every day Secretary Mayorkas remains in office America becomes less safe,” Biggs said in a press release introducing the resolution. “Secretary Mayorkas is the chief architect of the migration and drug invasion at our southern border. His policies have incentivized more than 5 million illegal aliens to show up at our southern border—an all-time figure. Instead of enforcing the laws on the books and deporting or detaining these illegal aliens, the vast majority of them are released into the interior and never heard from again.

“Thousands of pounds of drugs—including deadly fentanyl—continue to pour across the border unabated. Fentanyl is now the leading cause of death for Americans aged 18-45. These drugs could be stopped by a border fence and personnel, but Secretary Mayorkas has halted all wall construction and pulled agents from the front lines,” Biggs added.

At a news conference on February 2, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was asked about a timeline for Mayorkas’ impeachment.

“So what you’ll find is the committees are together, they’ll start the inquiry and let it go wherever it takes them,” he said.

“We will never use impeachment for political reasons. It’s just not going to happen,” McCarthy cautioned. “That doesn’t mean if something rises to the level of impeachment, we will not do it. So what you’re finding now is committees have just now been organized. I said early on, going down to the border a number of times. Fortunately the president finally went down to the border after 47 years. We can’t sustain what is happening. Every community now is a border community.”

When asked if he had the confidence of the conference to go forward with an impeachment inquiry, McCarthy responded “oh yeah, I think Democrats will join with us too, nobody wants to see the border the way it is today.”
