Rep. Matt Gaetz: ‘We Need to Go on Offense and De-Wokeify the Military’

Defense contractors shouldn’t be picked based on their woke policies as employers, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) said Monday in an interview with RSBN, bemoaning how even the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) is embracing leftist ideology, such as that requiring the use of gender identity pronouns.

Discussing the House-passed National Defense Authorization Act, Rep. Gaetz explained how the bill had, originally, contained a provision requiring that defense contractors should be chosen based on their wokeness:

“Could you image a world in which the company making the smartest drone, or the best body armor, or managing telecommunications security, wasn’t picked primarily on capability – but, on what they did for Pride Month and whether they had a diversity, equity and inclusion plan?”

“The DoD was the last bastion of government power that hadn’t been taken over by the political left,” Gaetz said, noting how other federal government departments and agencies have adopted woke policies.

Rep. Gaetz said that Republicans need to, not just put a halt to the proliferation of woke policies in the military, but to also eliminate those already in place:

“When Republicans take power again, it’s not going to be enough to just stem the tide of this nonsense we see in the armed forces today. We need to go on offense to de-wokeify the military.”

“We believe that all Americans are precious and that people ought to be judged on the content of their character,” Gaetz said.
