Russiagate Lawyer Elias’ Firm Sues Arizona Over New Election Integrity Law to Clean Up Voter Rolls

The law firm of Marc Elias, the top lawyer for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign who has come under scrutiny for his role in orchestrating the now-debunked Trump-Russia collusion claim, is suing the state of Arizona over a new election integrity law.

As AZ Free News reports, Elias’ team is challenging a law requiring county recorders take steps to prevent people from voting in multiple counties, or in a county in which they are no longer eligible to vote in:

“According to a lawsuit filed on Monday, the legal team argued that SB1260, which Governor Doug Ducey signed into law in June, infringed on the right to vote as well as the rights of free speech and association. SB1260 requires county recorders to cancel voter registrations for persons registered to vote in another county, and makes it a felony to help cast a vote for an individual registered out of state.

“Elias’ team claimed that SB1260’s language made it too easy for individuals or organizations to petition for the cancellation of voter registrations en masse. They asserted repeatedly throughout their complaint that it’s common for voters to have active registrations in more than one county, or even state.”

The lawsuit argues that the felony provision of SB1260 would criminalize voter registration efforts made by the three plaintiff organizations: Arizona Alliance for Retired Americans, Voto Latino, and Priorities USA.

As the Clinton campaign’s general counsel, Elias was instrumental in the fabrication and promotion of the Trump-Russia narrative. Elias hired the opposition research firm Fusion GPS, which hired British ex-spy Christopher Steele, who authored the discredited dossier used to smear Clinton’s opponent, President Donald Trump.

The lawsuit filed by Elias’ law firm Monday is the latest of multiple recent suits by Democrat-backed groups to challenge Arizona laws designed to ensure the integrity of the state’s elections.
