Sen. Lummis: ‘Secure' Border Remark by VP Harris is a ‘Completely False Statement…She Knows It’s False’

(CNS News) – When asked whether Vice President Kamala Harris’s remark that the U.S.-Mexico border “is secure” is true, Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) said, “No, it’s a completely false statement” and “she knows it’s false.”

At the Capitol on Sept. 15, CNS News asked Senator Lummis, “Vice President Harris said on Meet the Press on Sunday that the border is secure. Was that a true statement?”

Lummis replied, “No, it’s a completely false statement. And further, she knows it’s false. She will not go [and] independently verify that it’s false by traveling to our border.”

“She chose instead to go to Central America, where these folks are coming from, instead of going and seeing our border, and that’s offensive to me,” she said.

On NBC’s Meet the Press, Sept. 11, Vice President Harris said, “We have a secure border, in that, that is a priority for any nation including ours and our administration.”

She also said, “but we also have a broken immigration system” and “we also have to put in place a law and a plan for a pathway for citizenship.”

As CNS News has reported, “In fiscal 2020, Trump’s last full year in office, Customs and Border Protection reported that it encountered 458,088 people trying to illegally cross the U.S.-Mexico border into the United States.”

“In fiscal 2021, the year Biden succeeded Trump, the number of people CBP encountered trying to illegally cross the U.S.-Mexico border jumped to 1,734,686.”

Within the first 10 months of this fiscal year (October through July), CBP has encountered 1,946,780 illegal border-crossers.

It is estimated that at least 15.5 million illegal immigrants are living in the United States.
