Senate Majority Leader Schumer: ‘Gas Stoves Contribute to Climate Change’
(CNSNews.com) – Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D.-N.Y.) sent out a tweet on Friday stating that gas stoves are helping to cause climate change.
“Gas prices are high,” Schumer said in his tweet.
“Gas stoves can increase asthma risk,” he said.
“Gas stoves contribute to climate change,” he said.
“The Inflation Reduction Act can help with all this—but only if you choose to take advantage of it,” Schumer said.
Schumer–who was a sponsor of the Inflation Reduction Act that President Biden signed last year and that subsidizes the purchase of electric stoves–began his tweet with this message: “@ENERGY’s debunked the desperate MAGA idea that Dems are coming for your gas stove.”
In fact, the Department of Energy put out a tweet that day that said:
“TIRED: False narratives about Government coming for your stoves
“WIRED: Discussing ways to help people save money and improve their air quality with electric OR gas stoves
“INSPIRED: Healthy households saving money thanks to SCIENCE and the #InflationReductionAct.”
As noted on the White House website, the Inflation Reduction Act provides a subsidy for purchasing a gas stove or oven.
“Electric stoves, including induction ranges, provide better energy efficiency and indoor air quality than gas stoves, helping families save money and keep unhealthy pollution out of their homes,” says the White House.
“The Inflation Reduction Act provides rebates that can cover up to 100% of the costs of electric stoves, cooktops, ranges, and ovens, depending on household eligibility,” the White House says.
