Trump Endorses GOP House Minority Leader McCarthy for Reelection
(CNS News) — In a move that angered some conservatives and MAGA supporters, former President Donald Trump endorsed House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) for reelection in November of this year.
McCarthy is “a strong and fearless Leader of the House Republican Conference,” said Trump in a June 4 statement. “In Congress, Kevin is a tireless advocate for the people of Bakersfield and the Central Valley. He is working incredibly hard to Stop Inflation, Deliver Water Solutions, and Hold Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi Accountable for their catastrophic failures and dereliction of duty.”
“Kevin McCarthy has my Complete and Total Endorsement,” said Trump.
However, not a few conservatives were happy with the announcement.
Pedro Gonzalez, associate editor at Chronicles magazine, tweeted, “Trump endorsing Frank Luntz bunk buddy Kevin McCarthy, instead of using his political capital to undermine bad GOP leadership, is a sign that Trump has not learned much after all this time about who is and is not America First.”

“Too many people have convinced themselves that endorsing the swamp is actually playing 4D chess with the swamp. It’s not. McCarthy is worse than awful,” Gonzalez wrote in a follow-up tweet.
Leo Terrell, a civil rights attorney, talk radio host, and Fox News contributor, tweeted, “Kevin McCarthy does not want President Trump to win re-election in 2024.”
Back in April, in a tweet directed to House Reps. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Matt Gatez (R-Fla.), Terrell wrote, “Please takeover leadership from RINO Kevin McCarthy!”

In response, Gaetz tweeted, “@jim_Jordan is the hardest working and most talented member of the Republican House Conference. And every member knows it.”
Commenting on Trump’s endorsement, Christian businesswoman Stacey Rae, who has 105,000 followers on Twitter, wrote, “We’re screwed.”
Although McCarthy opposed the Democrat-dominated House’s efforts to impeach Trump, he said after the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, “The president bears responsibility for Wednesday’s attack on Congress by mob rioters. He should have immediately denounced the mob when he saw what was unfolding. These facts require immediate action by President Trump.”
“Let’s be clear, Joe Biden will be sworn in as president of the United States in one week because he won the election,” said McCarthy in a January 2021 floor speech.
