US Military Confirms That Woman Charged In South Carolina Murder Is An Active Duty Soldier At Fort Bragg

According to a military spokesman, the woman accused with murder in the death of 21-year-old De-Erica Fisher in Horry County is an active-duty soldier stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

According to Fort Bragg spokesperson Matt Visser, Yunique Weathers, 22, is an army specialist assigned to the 503rd Military Police Battalion, 16th Military Police Brigade.

“We’re coordinating with law enforcement and the military’s criminal investigation section,” Visser said on Wednesday afternoon. “This issue is still being investigated.”

Weathers had been a soldier at Fort Bragg for an unknown amount of time, according to Visser, although her rank indicated she had been with the military for anywhere from one to six years.

According to Horry County police reports, Weathers is accused of shooting Fisher many times in a field between the intersection of Pine Needle Drive and Highway 9 in the Longs area.

Around 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Horry County police responded to a reported shooting. According to a police report submitted to The Sun News, an officer was walking down the side of a canal and into a field when he heard a gunshot. According to the incident report, police discovered Weathers holding a firearm that was apparently recovered in the field and told her to drop it. She allegedly emptied the gun’s chamber before flinging it on the ground, according to police.

According to the Horry County police report, as officers approached Fisher, she seemed to be dead.

Weathers, who is from Fayetteville, North Carolina, is being held without bond at Horry County’s J. Reuben Long Detention Center. According to the jail’s website, she was arrested at 6 p.m. Sunday and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent felony.

According to public records, Fisher lived in Raleigh and Tabor City, North Carolina.
